what's a good music site to link to? fuck spotify and apple.
@fyrfli i use tidal because they pay artists the second best out of all platforms. at least they used to. i should go and check the splits in 2024.
@psyqology @fyrfli ditto for tidal
@tillshadeisgone @psyqology good thing i went to read all the replies first cos i was about to say fuck tidal ...
@fyrfli @psyqology IIII meannnnnn... They all suck so the real answer is LEGITIMATELY and LEGALLY obtaining your own music and streaming it through Plex but.... That's work
@tillshadeisgone @fyrfli i mean, artists never get paid from album sales. so in reality, that doesn't help. going to support their shows and merch does. as rehabilitated tour manager, those album checks before streaming were ass too.
@psyqology @fyrfli the more I learn about the music industry, the less it make sense.
Because WDYM they never get paid from album sales that's so fucked up!! I knew they made their real money from touring and merch but damn
@tillshadeisgone @fyrfli album sales have a LOT of people to pay. and 90% of artists get roped into deals where they pay for everything: studio time, venue bookings, and so on. indie artists now have more freedom, but it is harder to get noticed without a machine behind you because everything is so saturated.
@tillshadeisgone @fyrfli also, one of the reasons j-cole did EVERYTHING on his albums himself. and he has said almost all his money comes from touring. because its true. never had a feature, did all the production, and he still telling people touring is where money is.
@psyqology @fyrfli DAMN well good to know
@tillshadeisgone @psyqology i kinda knew that buying music or streaming isn't where the money is ... kinda ... not since the days of vinyl into cassettes ... from cds onward , that money is all but negligible.
it's my understanding it's a combination of things, not the least of which is that it's 100 times more expensive to cut an album today than it was 45 years ago.
still ... it is also about how far and wide their music gets seen and heard too ... so that's where me sharing links comes in. i have a fave song of the moment and i wanna bend yer ears off with it without robbing the artists blind.
@fyrfli @tillshadeisgone tidal and napster are the best streaming platforms for artists. but i feel like no one uses napster and like 8 people use tidal.
